In my opinion, augmented reality (AR) is set to be the ‘next big thing’ on handheld devices. AR applications display another layer of information on top of the real world. Some use the camera, and overlay information on the camera view, and some overlay information on a map. Being able to look at a familiar location with ‘new eyes’ is simply awesome, and I can only imagine how big this will become in the future. Holding your phone in front of your face may seem weird now, but it won’t be for long.

I am a mobile app developer currently focused on the iPhone platform. Same as you, I do believe AR will be a key feature of our technological future.
